LILBURN, Ga. Dec. 27, 2007 -- A Lilburn( metro Atlanta) couple was kidnapped from their home and their son held hostage for several hours on Wednesday during an attempted jewelry heist, according to police.
Gwinnett police said several suspects forced their way into the couple's home with weapons at about 9 a.m. They allegedly stole the couple's Hummer sport utility vehicle and ordered the couple to take them to a jewelry store they own in downtown Atlanta. Police said the store may have been why they were targeted.
One of the suspects stayed behind with their 15-year-old son.
During the robbery, the husband escaped and called 911 and the suspects fled, said Gwinnett County Police Department spokesman Officer David Schiralli.
The teenager, who was bound and gagged, freed himself after the suspect who was holding him also fled. Schiralli said that no one was injured in the incident.
None of the suspects had been arrested or identified Wednesday and police did not immediately release the names of the victims or the jewelry store.
