Teenager kills stepfather while he's asleep www.privateofficer.com
STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. Dec. 24, 2007-- DeKalb County authorities say 17-year-old Jamaal Barber shot and killed his stepfather while he was sleeping Sunday afternoon.
Neighbors tell police that there was a history of problems between Barber and 51-year-old Clark Pilcher.
Detective Manuel Norrington of the Stone Mountain Police Department says Pilcher was lying down in his home on San Pablo Court around 1 p.m. when he was shot once in the head. Pilcher died at the scene.
Police say they don't know what the motive was in the shooting. When officers arrived at the house the shooter had fled but police were able to quickly come up with a suspect and was soon out combing the area for him, the stepson.
Neighbors say Barber's mother and sister were devastated by the murder. "It's just a sad day for everybody," said neighbor Stephen Gordon.
Authorities say Barber fled after the shooting and tried to get away but turned himself in Sunday night.
