BRINKS GUARD PISTOL-WHIPPED----www.privateofficer.com
ATLANTA METRO GA. JUNE 12 2007
Chaos erupted inside a Cobb County movie theater on Monday evening as an armored guard robbery led to the SWAT team being called out to the AMC 24, off Barrett Parkway in Kennesaw. The theater reopened after 9:30 Monday evening, with most patrons not realizing that it was the scene of a major crime, just hours earlier."There was a security guard laying face down, covered in blood," said one witness.A Brinks armored car sat idle in the parking lot of the AMC 24 theaters, because the driver never made it back out."As we come in, we walked by the concession," said theatergoer Bobby Kendall. "The Brinks guy came in just behind us, and walks in the concession area, goes to the back office to get the money…and he had this little bag and then when we came out, the duffle bag was long gone, and his gun was laying on his side."A man trying to rob the driver, pistol-whipped him to the ground. Some moviegoers heard the commotion and came running into the lobby."I saw it, and I couldn't even come in the door -- I had to go out the back, because I had never seen so much blood before," said Melissa Albertes. "I got ill to my stomach -- I mean it was that bad."Cobb County police called in a tactical team and K-9 officers to help clear all 24 theaters, and search the scene -- not an easy task."It does make it difficult for all of us," said Cobb County Officer Cassie Reece. "Because we have to distinguish between who's watching the movie, and who could be the bad guy. It was difficult. Obviously the crowds were evacuated so we could go into the theater and clear all of the hidden places where a possible suspect could be."Police never found the suspect. They would not say if the suspect got away with any cash. The driver was taken to Kennestone Hospital to be treated for his injuries.
