SECURITY OFFICER SHOT DEAD by; Rick McCann
SELMA, AL. An 18-year-old male is in jail today charged in Monday night's shooting death of a security guard at a Selma apartment complex.
According to Selma Police, the guard — 35-year-old Steven James Aguero — had stopped a fight between two women and was later confronted by several people who were upset with him because he had called police.
Police said around 10 p.m., Aguero was shot in the chest as he stood next to a police sergeant who had responded to the scene.
Authorities said Corey Pullom of Selma turned himself in yesterday and was charged with Aguero's murder.
Selma Police Chief Jimmy Martin said additional arrests are possible.
He also said Sgt. Tommy Webber was given time off because the shooting left him traumatized.
