PLAINCLOTHES GUARD SHOT BY POLICE

Jefferson Parish, LA.
A top Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office official described Kenny's Key West as the top trouble spot in the parish among clubs and lounges.
Deputy Chief Tom Gorman, head of the Sheriff's Office Investigations Bureau, made the comment Tuesday at a press conference called by Sheriff Harry Lee to discuss the Sunday morning shooting outside the club in which two people were injured and 50 shots were fired.
Lee, at his first press conference since returning from California for successful leukemia treatment, said he is in favor of an ordinance being proposed by Councilwoman Jennifer Sneed to cancel the liquor license of a business with an act of violence within 300 feet of its front door.
As long as such a law is contstitutional, Lee said he is in support.
Lee said he plans to speak to the parish council at its Wednesday meeting to answer any questions about the history of shootings and violence at Kenny's Key West.
Kenny's Key West owners Kenneth Vincent and Linda Milto have been unavailable for comment.
Security guard Damon Blunt, 29, was was shot in the lower back and in the buttocks by deputies. Gorman said Blunt was not wearing a security guard uniform and did not put down a gun he was holding when ordered by deputies.
Blunt's boss, Kevin Johnson, has said that deputies in an unmarked van did not give his employee enough time to put down the weapon before shooting.
Also injured was Ricky Hines, 21, of Marrero, who was shot in the foot while standing in line to enter the club, authorities said. It wasn't clear who shot Hines.
