No water for 7 years until today............. wwww.privateofficer.com

NASHVILLE, Tenn. Dec. 27, 2007 -- An outpouring of generosity has helped an elderly couple receive what most people take for granted – water.
For the past seven years, a couple in their 70s lived like they were kids again: their only water supply was jugs they refilled when visiting their kids.
“Me and her (were) born in the 1940s and 1930s. There wasn’t any running water. We knew how to work around it,” said Robert Patterson. “We would go to kids’ house and wash our heads and everything and come back home.
The only water the Pattersons had was what they brought in jugs from their children’s home.
It all started in 2000 when Patterson was hurt and unable to work. And with disability payments delayed, $3,000 in water bills went unpaid so the city shut their water off. They have gone without a drop of water since.
“They didn't tell anybody that they needed the help,” said Carolyn Wood.
Eighteen years ago, Wood sold the Pattersons their home and started a friendship. Three months ago, the Nashville Housing Authority gave her the news.
“I was as shocked as anybody,” Wood said.
She said she was almost as shocked as when the Pattersons saw their story in the newspaper.
“It scared me to death. I said, ‘Carolyn what have you done?’” Robert Patterson said.
What she did worked.
In the past few days, donations have come from all over. Home Depot donated $3,000 to cover the water bill and the wife of George Jones also wants to donate.
As of Wednesday, a water heater that has gone unused was fixed.
Alice Patterson’s smaller chores have gotten a little easier.
“I really do truly appreciate everything you done for us,” she told Wood.
“I know you do,” Wood said.
Any extra money in donations that the Pattersons receive will go toward paying future water bills.
Wood has also helped the couple create a budget to ensure the situation doesn't happen again.
