LACEY WA. — A man armed with a knife wrestled with two store security officers and bit one after a botched shoplifting attempt Tuesday afternoon at Target, court records state.
Store security officers were able to subdue Joseph Daniel Walker, 41, then waited for Lacey police, who arrested Walker, court papers state.
A Thurston County Superior Court judge found probable cause Wednesday to order Walker held with bail set at $25,000 on suspicion of one count each of attempted second-degree assault while armed with a deadly weapon and possession of methamphetamine. He remained at the Thurston County Jail on Wednesday night.
According to court records:
A store security officer confronted Walker after seeing him bag some items and attempt to leave without paying. When Walker was taken to a security office, he began to resist.
The security officer saw that Walker had pulled a folding knife from his pocket. The officer yelled, “Knife!” and tried to disarm Walker. Walker bit another store security officer on the shoulder, and the security officers eventually overpowered him.
A Lacey police officer reviewed a tape and saw that Walker had the knife “raised in a menacing manner.” When interviewed by police, Walker said, “I just didn’t want to be caught, so I pulled out my knife. ... I was just trying to intimidate them.”
EVERETT MN Sunday: The security officer for Safeway in the 7600 block of Evergreen Way stopped a 17-year-old male for allegedly shoplifting two energy drinks together valued at $5.18. The boy was cited and released.
WOODLAND HILLS TX. On June 16, Deputy Bailey and Deputy Wienke were dispatched to Lowe's located at 3052 College Park Drive in reference to a Theft. A loss prevention officer observed two women placing rolls of electrical wire into a shopping cart. He then watched as they passed all points of purchase, making no attempt to pay for the wire. The two women were detained by the witness and other Lowe's employees until deputies arrived. Both women were then arrested for Theft and transported to female booking without incident.
On June 15, Deputy Wright was dispatched to Marshall's located at 1120 Lake Woodlands Drive in reference to a Theft. A loss prevention officer observed a woman conceal some bedding and 2 pairs of socks, 2 pairs of shoes from the children's department in her handbag. She then returned the bedding to the customer service desk, receiving a refund. She then attempted to exit the store without paying for any of the items. She was stopped by loss prevention and escorted to the loss prevention office. The woman was arrested for Theft and transported to the Montgomery County Jail.
On June 16, Deputy P. Smith was sent to the Wal-Mart in Porter in reference to a theft. Upon arrival, the Deputy met with the loss prevention officer who had a man detained for shoplifting. The man had removed $77.33 worth of merchandise and left the store without paying. The 22-year-old man from Porter was arrested at 7:43 p.m. and transported to jail. The man had also given a false name and date of birth to the Deputy and was filed on for failure to identify additionally.
CONCORD, N.H. -- A Pittsfield, New Hampshire man accused of trying to stab a Home Depot employee with a screwdriver when she confronted him about shoplifting said he stole the item as a birthday present for his father.
24-year-old Brian Gage was ordered held on $110,000 bail Tuesday. Prosecutor Scott Murray said Gage's criminal record, which includes two counts of felonious sexual assault, second-degree assault, disorderly conduct and drug charges, made Gage a danger to society.According to a police affidavit, Gage drew suspicion at the Home Depot on Monday after a store security employee saw him select items for purchase, put them back and then select them again. The security guard noticed Gage pacing the store and watched him put a $10 screwdriver in his pants.The affidavit said Gage paid for a magnetic tray with a Home Depot credit card but left the store without paying for the screwdriver. It says when the security guard confronted Gage, he tried to stab her with the screwdriver.Police eventually caught up with Gage.When Gage called his father after his arrest, he told him, he was just trying to get him a birthday present.
