STORE GUARD ASSAULTED
June 4, 2007 -- Manhattan NY A thief was busted after he attacked a store security guard and led police on a wild chase through the Upper West Side, authorities said yesterday.
The guard spotted Gerzinio Ledain, 19, stuffing items into a shopping bag inside a store on Broadway near West 109th Street at around 2:52 p.m. on Thursday, sources said.
As Ledain allegedly tried to leave without paying, the guard confronted him and a fight broke out.
Ledain allegedly pummeled the guard and clubbed him with a baton, causing injuries that were not life-threatening.
Then he jumped into a silver vehicle and sped away, authorities said.
Police tailed the vehicle to Central Park, where Ledain crashed into a barrier at the entrance and was arrested on various charges, including assault.
