DC GUARDS OWED BACKPAY BY DHS www.privateofficer.com

WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- We have learned that scores of private security guards with guns and security clearances refused to work Tuesday because they did not get their pay checks Monday. The guards are employed by Jenkins Security firm which has been in business and supplying protection of local government buildings since 1994. Owner Robert Jenkins, himself a retired DC Police Sergeant, says he failed to make payroll Monday because the Department of Homeland Security owes his company $1.8 million for services, some of which date back to 2004. Sources tell 9NEWS NOW other small security firms are also owed millions by DHS. DC Congressional Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton calls it "inexcusable" and says her office is investigating "as we speak." Two DHS spokespersons Laura Keehner and Larry Orluskie have returned our phone calls and say they are working on a response.
