SEATTLE WA. JUNE 22 2007 - Police are investigating an early morning shooting of a security guard outside of a University District nightclub. The University of Washington says the security guard is former football player Mark Farney of Bellevue.
According to police the shooting occurred outside of Tommy's Nightclub and Grill in the 4700 block of University Way NE.
Witnesses are reported as saying the guard had turned away a man known to have caused trouble in the past at the club. They say that man went to his car, got a gun, returned and shot the guard in the abdomen.
Police said Varney was taken to Harborview Medical Center. At last word, he is in critical condition but expected to survive.
Police took two people into custody and recovered a gun at the scene.
