Midland TX. Jan 2 2008 A Midland security guard who allegedly used the Internet to initiate contact with a minor was arrested over the weekend for sexual assault of a child
He was arrested on a first-degree felony charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child and a second-degree felony charge of sexual assault of a child.
Derouen had been in contact with a 16-year-old boy through both the Internet and cell phone since November, authorities said.
A press release issued Monday said Derouen worked as a security guard at the mall and allegedly brought the child there after hours and committed the crimes.
Brenda Henley, director of mall marketing for the Midland Park Mall, said in a prepared statement that because the incident currently is under police investigation, she could not provide any details on it.
"We are committed to providing a safe and quality shopping experience," she said in a statement released Monday afternoon. "We take all reports of incidents that occur on our property quite seriously and will be conducting our own investigation as well."
Derouen is being held at the Midland County Jail and a bond of $25,000 for each charge has been set. Midland County records show this is his first offense. If found guilty of the charges, according to the Texas Penal Code, he can face anywhere from five years to life in prison for the first-degree felony charge and two to 20 years for the second-degree charge.
